I am putting back into print The Organizer's Manual by the O.M. Collective; because I believe it represents the best vision we had of the 1960's and where we wanted to take the country. I had left it just as it was written. Again because I believe history shows a better clarity when one does not try to revise it. On the other hand part of what we have written about has come to pass. The idea of National Elections being influenced by grass roots organizing has happend. President Obama's election was surely a chance for community organizers to have an impact on a National Election. In fact, President Obama himself was a grass root organizer in Chicago. So certainly his exposure to that process was part of the reason he got elected to the Office of the President of the United States. In addition, we have the fact that we include a comprehensive bibliography for historians to emply in following up where our ideas came from. As a founding co-author and main organizer for the collective, this was the first in a series of works. I trust the reader will understand that to publish this work, I still acknowledge that it was primarily a collective endevour and not individual work. The actual debate internally over whether we should have our names on it or not was then and still remains anonymous. I have merely identified myself with this process to facilitate the publication and re-publication of this work. "What's in the Organizer's Manual?" |
